Good Leadership

What does a good leader look like in 2013?  In times of destitute poverty with inflation making everything we purchase go up, wallets are stretched to capacity.  A good leader has to balance what is going on in the country with what their needs are in the now.

Washington’s Fiscal Cliff bill may have saved big government and big industry in the way of pork, but it’s probably going to send many families over their own fiscal cliff when they have to pay more money in taxes.

Social Security went from 4 .5% to 6 .5% that means the average person making $40,000 a year will have $800.00 less in their pay check.

In addition, according to the Tax Policy Center the Fiscal Cliff deal caused a households making $40,000 to $50,000 to have a Federal tax increase of $579.00

Households making between $50,000-$75, 000 will be Federally taxed an additional $822.00.

Due to Obamacare, your insurance will go up and the value of the benefits your employer provides are now seen as income and you will also have to pay taxes on the “value” of your benefits.

If you happen to live in Lorain, our local leaders, not considering the climate in America raised income tax to 2.5%, the highest income tax of any city in the county and a school levy was passed as well raising property taxes.

If we take our household of $40,000, that’s $1,000 in taxes out of pocket to the city of Lorain, and probably another $400 increase  in real estate taxes.

Not to mention, water rates were raised twice in 2012.

None of this took into consideration how expensive it is just to live.  Gas prices are up 38%, while food is up 17% since 2010 according to the Food & Agricultural Organization’s Food Price Index.

Is there a breaking point?  There is.  It comes in the Spring of 2014.  The massive income tax has a portion of it coming up for renewal next Spring.  Two percent (2%) of that 2.5 % will be up for grabs and we as overburdened tax payers can restore it to our wallets to offset some of the increases from the fiscal cliff deal.   That’s $800.00 back in your budget.

The boy mayor had no idea Washington was going to blast us with higher taxes when he asked for a half percent increase but we all knew it was coming with all that spending.  When Obama said “no family making less than $250,000 will see any form of tax increase”, some of us knew that was a lie.  Free Obamaphones don’t pay for themselves after all.

2014 is a chance to get our heads above water, we need to take that chance since our leadership is oblivious as to how hard it is to make ends meet.  Since in office he’s hired upwards of 65 people.  It’s about growing government not about making government lean and mean.  Lorain city government is like a big sloppy drunk that gets its booze for free.

Here’s the Pork of the Fiscal Cliff Deal

  • $430 million to Hollywood to encourage TV and movie production in the US
  • $331 million for railroad
  • $222 million Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands on taxes collected on Rum
  • $70 million for NASCAR
  • $59 million for algae growers
  • $4 million for electric car and motor cycle manufacturers
  • GE, Goldamn Sachs, Morgon Stanley all got tax credits to allow them to not have to pay any taxes.
